Sustainable Village Project

In order to align the development plan of our home local body – (Ramamangalam Panchayath) with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations, we work with this project. The college has conducted field surveys to understand the aspirations of the community and submitted a proposal to the Ramamangalam Panchayat for discussion and execution.


India’s First Sports Tourism Village

Making Ramamangalam India’s first sports tourism village is the central theme of this project. The College in association with Ramamangalam panchayat and Sports Management and Research Institute (SMRI) Kochi (the nodal agency) is implementing this project.


Salt Walk

It’s a walkathon to commemorate Dandi March of Mahatma Gandhi, started on April 10 2021. In association with SMRI Kochi and the Ramamangalam Gramapanchayath, Stella Maris college organizes monthly walks through the hinterlands of the villages.


Kayika Gramamam

Keeping the theme of sports and fitness, National Service Scheme (NSS) adopts sports places in the sitting ward. They take the lead role in cleaning, initiating and conducting sports. The NSS also forms SPORTS COMMUNITIES to build the momentum of sports.


OFF Road Show

In association with FFJ, Ave Stella Maris college conducts yearly off-road jeep rides in the campus. We have a permanent facility for practicing off road rides.


Stellaites Green

It’s an initiative to promote green habits among students and villagers. The project encourages scientific waste management, usage of renewable energy sources, and other eco-friendly practices.


Village Tours

The tour offers distinctive experiences to enjoy nature and to witness the lives of people. The village is rich in cultural, traditional and religious heritage and scenic beauty. Students are being trained to guide visitors to the panoramic locations and regale them with age-old stories. Guests can enjoy local cuisine and get involved in village activities. Kizhumuri Agri tourism village

The Ave Stella Maris college is situated near the beds of Ramamangalam river. The river stretch has rich heritage, traditions, and stories. Kizhumuri village is blessed with lush green paddy fields, picturesque locations, fresh air, pure water and vast agricultural lands. Ullerikkunnu – a film shooting location that lures lots of people and the Manal Kadavu provides a serene space for rejuvenation. Areeckal Waterfalls

Areeckal waterfall is one of the small enthusiastic waterfalls situated in Ernakulam district near Pampakuda with just 1 hr travel from Cochin and less than half an hour travel from Muvattupuzha. This waterfall is attractive in rainy seasons. Travelers can have a relaxed time here. Step down to the beauty of water, this place is safe for children to take showers under the water. Another attractive tourist location near the waterfall is Kochareeckal Caves. Both these make the destination a paradise.


Koorumala

Koorumala is a tourist spot located 2 km away from Elanji and 9 km away from Piravom in Ernakulam district of Kerala. It’s a beautiful view point up a moderately steep slope. The location has a viewing tower which offers a beautiful panorama. The highlight though is the ride to the point. Roads leading to this place are flawless and canopies of trees are present on both sides of the roads. You can also have a short off-roading experience if you are on a bike. Koorumala has good locations for capturing pictures. Best time to visit this place is morning and evening so that you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and watch the perfect sunrise and sunset. This place is yet to be in the tourist map of the district. You can spend some valuable time with your friends and family here. Edayan Lake

Edayan Lake is a picturesque place where you can sit in a tree house, with a cup of coffee, gazing at the sun rising from the lake. It is the perfect place to enjoy the evening breeze with a book and some potato chips and drinks in an open air coffee shop. You can enjoy sport activities which include riding motor boats, water scooter, pedal boat, swimming pool, cycling and fishing. If you want to learn or practice under expertise, they have coaching classes for swimming, Karatte and Yoga. Aattutheeram Park

Aattutheeram Park is located 3km away from piravom town and it is the latest attraction at piravom area constructed by piravom municipality under kerala tourism department. It’s a calm and quiet place to relax and enjoy the view of Muvattupuzha River. The breeze from the river to the paddy field gives us a blissful experience. It is the best place to spend evenings with family. It is a calm and quiet, serene village environment. The municipality is now extending the park structure and a boat service also is included in the upcoming version of Aattutheeram Park.

Ramamangalam – Thammanimattom Hanging Bridge

This beautiful hanging bridge connects two small villages in Ernakulam district. These villages are blessed with scenic beauty of greenery, rivers and much more. The bridge was recently opened and is one of the favorite tourist destinations now. You can enjoy boating and a fresh bath in the river to relax your mind and body here.

Heritage Tour of Temples, Churches, Mosques

Aiming to carve a niche for itself in Kerala’s tourism map, Piravom near Kochi, home to some ancient temples, churches and mosques, interspersed with vast expanse of agricultural land, is getting all set to woo visitors. A Heritage Tour, connecting Tripunithura Hill Palace, once headquarters of the illustrious Cochin Royal family and now a museum, Chottanikara temple, Mulanthuruthy Marthoman church, Kanjiramattom mosque, Melapazhoor Mana, Pazhoor Perumthrikkovil, Piravom Valiya Palli, Ooramana Narasimha Moorthy temple and Shadkala Govinda Marar Smarakam, is being given final shape by the Centre for Heritage Studies (CHS). In Chottanikkara temple, dedicated to Hindu mother Goddess Bhargavati, the image in the shrine is not fixed to the ground but mounted on loose sand.

One of the most ancient churches in Kerala, Mulanthuruthy Marthoma church, established between AD 1110 and 1125 under the Holy Apostolic See of Antiochhas, has great historical significance for the Maliankara Syrian Orthodox church. The Kanjiramattom mosque, currently being renovated, is the resting place of Sheikh Fariddudin Mosque, where Hindus along with Muslims, offer prayers on festive occasions.

Another place on the itinerary is Melpazhoor Mana in Velyanad village, birthplace of Saint Sancharacharaya of 8th century AD. The ‘nalukettu’ (four-fold architectural design) house is on 8.3 acres of compound where Lord Ayappa, Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, Vettekkorumakan, Bhagavathi and other traditional temples of the Mana are located. The whole complex is now owned by Chinmaya International Foundation. Here Sanskrit studies and research is promoted by Kendriya Sanskrit Samsthan, Delhi as an institution affiliated to that centre.

The 14th century Pazhoor Perumthrikkovil temple is on the banks of Periyar over a picturesque Pazhoor. It has notable examples of old workmanship in wood, illustrating Puranic scenes and figures from Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana and Mahabharata Piravom Valiya Palli, thought to be the most ancient and prominent churches, is popularly known as ‘Church of the Kings’ and named after St Mary. The altar has a special wooden lock ‘Erthazhu’ made from indigenous herbs. It is believed this was installed in the 15th century by Portuguese merchants. Ooramana Narasimha Moorthy temple dates to 12-13 century AD, has a circular vumana with granite stone plinth with plastered walls having beautiful murals. They include various Puranic scenes like Gajendra Moksha, Sivathandava, Sastha on hunting, Lord Rama’s pattabhisheka and the war between Rama and Ravana.

Shadkala Govinda Marar Smarkakam

The tour is complete only with a visit to Shadkala Govinda Marar Smarkakam – a memorial in Ramamangalam, a tiny village. Govinda Marar, popularly known as Shadkala Govinda Marar, was a Carnatic musician from Kerala and a contemporary of Tyagaraja and Swati Thirunal Rama Varma, exponents of Carnatic music. He was also adept at playing musical instruments like chenda, edakka, and thimila.

Nalambalalangal

The Nalambalam pilgrimage – the holy visits to the temples of Lord Rama, Lakshmana, Bharata and Sathrughna, located around Piravom commence on the first day of the Ramayana month. The pilgrimage starts with a visit to the Mamalassery Sreerama Swamy temple followed by a visit to the Sree Laksmana temple at Mullakulam. The pilgrims can complete the holy tour by visiting the Sree Bharath temple and Sree Sathrugnan Swami temple located on the Choodi-Pampakuda Road.

Kadamattom Church

Kadamattom Church is one of the ancient churches in India. The church is situated near to Kolenchery town near Muvattupuzha, India. The church is believed to have been established in the 9th Century AD. Kadamattathu Kathanar also known as Kadamattathachan (Father Kadamattom) is a priest who is believed to have possessed supernatural powers and whose legends are closely related to the beginning of the Kadamattom Church, one of the oldest church buildings that still exists in Kerala the land of Saint Thomas Christians.

It’s a trekking route with abundant nature attractions. Kodukuthimala in Ooramana provides exquisite experiences to travellers by giving physical and mental rejuvenation. The land is well received by people having old churches, caves, muniyara etc. The place Ooramana in Ramamangalam panchayath is also known as the ‘land of Manas’ (traditional homes of namboothiris called ‘Illams’. It’s mostly associated with family temples).
